- Lattice: Portgas D. Ace died as he lived: As a Pirate.

It was in Ace’s inherent nature to be rude. However, it was also in Ace’s acquired nature to be considerate of other people’s feelings. It was a difficult, precarious balance on which he had started working while still a teen and which nowadays pended to the kind side unless the man was provoked.
Thus, he did not voice his true feelings to Lattice over her partial nudity and how smashingly indifferent it was to him, fearful of hurting her feelings. Still… He could not tell a lie and would not tell her one to massage her ego, either. It was a matter of measuring his words to get the message across - and truth be told, the babylike way Lattice was speaking to him, about her being a ‘big, mean marine’ was more than enough reason for Ace to lose his temper.
“You must have me mistaken, ma’am. I wasn’t paying attention”

Ace was puzzled. Why would the Lieutenant Commander approach him and ask him to control Law before she took take matters into her own hands? Why would she give herself the trouble of dealing with one more pirate and delay the punishment of the first one?
That was not very much like Lattice - unless she hoped Ace’s intervention would cause Law to get angry and his anger would cause them to fight while she watched from afar, sipping on her precious wine which, in truth, was very much like Lattice.
“I’m not his babysitter, am I? Roo can handle you just fine. Besides, doesn’t he have a crew to assist him?”

What was Lattice doing now? Teasing and joking were usually his activities, always with the purpose of distracting the marine and making a witty escape from the clutches of ‘justice’. Now she was the one attempting to flirt with him or so it seemed… Was it tactics or had lunch at quarters poisoned her the Lieutenant Commander’s brain?
Jokes on her, regardless of her reasons: Ace was not very good with pick-up lines regardless of the end he was at. And, through her mouth, the words sounded anything but delightful or amusing.
“…and who gave you permission to talk about my nuts?”
“I warn them about the goats, but they never listen.”
“It’s all your fault for not controlling your damned goats!” And you can still be grateful you fell asleep on your belly, Ace…
Flat-Ass Ace.
More booty for me then.

There she was again and, with her, the provocations.
“What? You think I can’t do it?” Where had even Lattice gotten the idea that Ace’s social appearances always ended up in arson from? “Because I can. Wanna make it interesting, though?”
With a grin, Ace was getting ready to make a bet with the lieutenant commander on it, seeing as it was fair for him to get compensation from a dare that was in the bag when he realised there may be another meaning to her words besides the bickering.
“Wait a minute… Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Deadweight doesn’t speak, Portgas.”
The seamen dread Sundays, when Lattice requires a body for her endurance training. Looks like she found today’s volunteer.

Rumor has it that the Lt. Commander is an Amazonian.

Ace didn’t stop slurping his coffee just because lieutenant commander Lattice was entering the establishment; very casually so, no goons behind her.
It was good coffee, unlike a certain brew from a certain marine base… Why should he stop enjoying it just because Lattice was there to arrest him? She always was but never did.
“Cup of coffee, lieutenant?” He asked with a lifted mug and a bastard smile on his face.
“Lieutenant commander” Lattice corrected for the hundreth time. Was the pirate so dumb he had not yet learnt her rank or did he take enjoyment in testing her patience? Judging by that goofy smile and little coffee mug dance… No, she could not possibly decide on a conclusion. Fire Fist was just being his ‘smart-dumb’ Fire Fist self.
“Same thing, innit?”
If Lattice could not understand Ace, Ace couldn’t understand Lattice either: adding to their cat-and-mouse game, the marine woman did something so baffling the pirate would not make anything of it not even in a million years.
After taking a look around as to assess the state of affairs, a frivolous or dutiful exercise since not many people were around, she came and sit with him. No, more than that: on him. On his lap.
“So… Is this some kind of new strategy or…?”
All things considered, having Lattice in his lap was better than having another marine acquaintance of his. Say Smoker.

Aya throws a fireproof blanket over his head, gently turns him around, and heads for the nearest restaurant.
TAKE IT TO THE HILLS FLAMEBOI
Two different kinds of people, I guess.

“I see” he replied, as if he was actually thinking about her answer. As though this little exchange of words had any seriousness to it.
Ace had only asked Lattice what she felt about the idea of dating him as part of a ‘made up on the spot’ strategy to disarm the Lieutenant Commander and escape her clutches after her announcement of ‘You’re hereby arrested, Fire Fist’, to which Ace had replied by saying:
Hey, now! What’s all this animosity about; can’t we get along? You look like a nice lady… Maybe we could have coffee or something? Who knows… We might end up dating.
Seeing her response… iAce was being unsuccessful. Not too unsuccessful, though: he had made Lattice talk rather than clap him in seastone.
“What you call a headache, I call fun. C’mon, what do you say?”

“Talking about a marine with a good nose!” Lattice was very right, meaning Ace was impressed. Those three guesses of hers were pretty much Ace’s signature fragrance.
Now though, a fourth element seemed to linger after his visit to Vine. Ace’s nostrils all but doubled in size as he took a whiff of himself. “I smell goaty, too!”
Here’s to hoping that one aroma would fade away.
//Its always a good reminder that these are all our own personal relaxation times, and thus there should be no obligation to entertain every other RP blog/partner. Sure, some people thrive on that sort of thing, but most are more comfortable with a more moderate amount of interaction per day/week/etc.
Why, of course! Respect and understanding and apply here as they should elsewhere. It costs me nothing to make myself clear, that’s all. My only worry is upsetting people’s feelings because they feel I am leaving them behind in favour of someone else. For instance, I reply to @theoceanslibrarian several times a day and it might seem I prioritize her over others when it happens that we manage to keep our interactions coming and going with smoothness and a nice flow - I don’t want to make anyone upset, you know?
